Can you see him?
Is that a log in the middle of the first pic? Nope, its a big northern! He was alive and well, but his head was buried in the weeds so it was hard to get him to notice any lures I threw in. I tossed one in where I thought his head was and jerked hard. Sure enough, I hooked him, but not in his mouth (oops). I pulled him a couple yards towards shore but the hook came out and he got away. I'm guessing he was 36".

I have a good northern story to tell. My family and I used to go to Cook Mn. with my folks. Dad and I mostly fished for walleye. One evening in this narrow opening into a cove in about eight ft of water, trolling for walleye on light tackle, I caught a 10 lb. northern and got him in the boat.....the very next year, same type of fishing in the evening for walleye,same water, I caught another northern. I think 37" I do remember a chart had him at 16 lbs the scale we had said he was 15

I'd love to catch a big one. It seems with the lakes around here you'd need a boat to have any chance of catching one. The weeds by the shore are just too thick.
I'm not really. I had a boat years ago before I had kids. Didn't use it much so I sold it. It was a nice little 14' flat bottom w/ a 9.5 hp. Ideal for small lakes. We went to Minnesota for a few years and I enjoyed fishing with my dad, but that's about it.
It would be tough to wrestle a big northern through the weeds, but it must have been exciting seeing it. People sometimes catch huge northerns towards evening and night on the Tenney Park breakwater.
Also, congrats on that big bench press the other day.
