Jigging in Madison and Aquarium Update

Finally I got out on the lake! I've been dying to try out the gear that Jeff is loaning me, and with temps in the mid 30's, today was the perfect day. Went out at about 7:30 with a few friends and set up shop at a depth of about 8 feet of water. We set a few tip-ups with shiners and then got to work enticing the bluegill with small jigs and waxworms. There were plenty of fish down there, but we had our work cut out for us getting them to bite. After 4 or 5 hours if fishing we went home with 12 keeper bluegill and 1 perch. We also saw a few big crappie and largemouth swimming around but weren't able to catch any.

I haven't put up pics of the aquarium in a while, so here's what it looks like now. The residents are 1 pumpkinseed, 1 green sunfish, 2 smallmouth bass, 1 white sucker, and 1 shiner. I added a few more artificial plants which I think are a nice touch. I also have a 10 gallon tank set up for minnows and shiners - to serve both as food for my fish in the big aquarium and to use as bait when I go fishing.

That's a good start. There should be some nice days on the ice coming up, if your weather is anything like ours.
