On Saturday Chuck and I headed north to a trout stream. I wanted to see some trout before I buy a trout stamp (probably next season), and this trip turned out perfectly. The water was clear with plenty of trout. Chuck caught 3 browns and 1 brook, and had about 6 come off the hook as he was reeling them in. He released all the fish he caught.
Sunday I went fishing by myself at Picnic Point and Lake Monona by the terrace. Nothing was biting at the point, but by the terrace I caught a pretty big drum on a spinner. (PR at 14.5")

That must be a good trout stream. You can get some good use of your stamp fishing Black Earth Creek in Cross Plains and in Black Earth. There's a good public access spot just as you get into Cross Plains.I think there are several good streams as you works your way west to Richland Center.
That drum is a thumper. The trout stream looks really fishy too. Tight lines

Ben, did you ever think of throwing a lit cigar into the water. That just might have been stinky enough to catch an ol' Catfish.

Believe it or not that's a pretty average Sheaphead. In Northwest Ohio, we'd catch Drum like that all day long. Now here in Indiana you only catch big ones, and seldom at that. Usually at least 18". I've seen 6-8lbsers caught.They eat a wide variety of prey. Check out the 'shellcracker' in their throats. They can get as big as carp in the right conditions.
Definately a trash fish.
They get huge in Lake Mendota too. I've thought a time or two that I've had a state record smallie, only to find out it was a massive drum.
