Hit up the Yahara again on Saturday, more to enjoy the fine weather than to actually fish. The bass were biting more than the day before. I caught 4 largemouths and had several come off the hook. I finally caught my freshwater drum under the bridge. I took it home and breaded and fried the fillets. People consider drum a trash fish, but I say who cares, they taste pretty darn good when they're fried in butter!

Hi Ben, nice photos. Glad you were able to get out and hook a few.
Nice catch and the drum sounds tasty. After all what doesn't taste good fried in butter.

I think the Wisconsin folks are missing out on the drums. They are very tasty. It seems like in the lakes as well as in the Wisconsin River you catch plenty of them when fishing for either smallies or walleyes, especially when using live bait. Why not keep and eat the drum and throw the sportfish back in the water? It's a perfect solution.
By the way, you are going to be very tough to beat in the species race. You're just getting started on your season and already have 9 or 10. I think BT might be tied with you.
The river is still high and muddy here, but I've had some great pond action. Maybe I'll put up an article about it.
Lol, how about I start a "species caught and eaten" list?
It's still on my mind to come down to Champaign sometime and do a strategic fishing trip to add to my life list. Creek chub, longear sunfish, spotted bass, and sucker are all on your list that would be additions to my life list.
I could almost guarantee you the spotted bass, creek chub and sunfish.
The sucker I caught was snagged by a crankbait, but you could probably find a way to catch one.
